  Chapter 1

  Teyana

I had been calling Gambino for the last hour. He had called almost two hours ago and said that he, Zywon and Camari were headed home. I was still staying with Zywon and Sevyn since being released from the hospital the week before. Gambino was staying here with me most nights. I wasn’t ready to move in with him just yet. It was still tough some days for me to get around and although I did want to be with Gambino, I felt like moving in with him right now would be too soon.

“Sevyn, something is wrong. There is no way the guys went from being on their way home to not answering the phone at all,” I said while putting on my shoes. I was going to the barbershop to see what was going on.

“Wait, Tee, I’m coming with you. You’re in no condition to drive and I do feel like something is wrong,” Sevyn said, now putting her shoes and jacket on as well.

We hopped in Zywon’s Range Rover because it was the last car in the driveway. He had rode with Gambino. As Sevyn drove towards the shop, I started to get an uneasy feeling in my stomach. I tried calling all their cell phones one more time and still got nothing. It took us about 15 minutes to get to the barbershop, but when we attempted to pull onto the street leading to it, there were fire trucks, ambulances and police cars everywhere.

Before Sevyn could stop the truck I was hopping out. The limp I had was slowing me down but not even the pain in my legs could match the pain that was piercing my heart when I saw the body bags and yellow tape blocking off the doors to the barbershop.

Once I made it to the yellow tape and tried to get through I was stopped by a male officer telling me that I couldn’t go any further.

“My boyfriend, brother and son are in that damn barbershop. Don’t tell me I can’t go in there!” I yelled. After the officer heard that, he motioned for a female to come over to where we were.

He went to her and whispered something in her ear and she looked towards me. She walked to me and asked my name.

“I’m Teyana. Can someone tell me where my son is?”

“I’m Detective Morrow. Did you say that your boyfriend and brother own this place? And that your son was here with them tonight?”

“Yes. Terrean and Zywon Rose own this barbershop and my son, Camari, was here with them getting his hair cut this evening. They called about two hours ago and informed me and my best friend Sevyn that they would be home soon. After not hearing from them an hour later, I called and called with no answer.”

“Ms…?” the detective stopped, waiting for me to give her last name.

  “Andersen.”

“Ms. Andersen, I’m sorry to tell you this but when we got here, Zywon and Terrean were both found with gunshot wounds. Both were taken to Atlanta Memorial but there was no child here. Can you give me some details about your son? What was he wearing? How old is he? Are there any distinctive features we can look for?” the detective asked. She grabbed her walkie-talkie and immediately dispatched for an amber alert to be issued.

“No, no. Where’s my baby?!” I broke down and started screaming. Sevyn caught me before I could hit the ground and held me tight. She started telling the detective everything she needed to know about Camari. After asking us if we knew anyone who would want to cause harm to Terrean, Zywon or Camari, they told us we could go to the hospital with Gambino and Zywon and they would be in contact with us as soon as possible.

  *******

When we got to the hospital, we asked the nurse at the desk for the whereabouts of the guys, the nurse had a bit of an attitude but she finally told us that Zywon was in a recovery room and that Gambino was still in surgery and that he would send the doctor in to talk with us when he was finished.

When we got to the room, Zywon was trying to get out the bed and pulling his IV lines out his arm.

“Zy, baby, are you okay? What happened and where the fuck is Camari?” Sevyn asked all in one breathe.

“Sevyn, calm down. I think this has Tyriq’s name all over it. There is no reason for anyone else to come and kidnap my son. I just don’t understand why he won’t let me be.”

I broke down crying again. My life was nothing without my son.

“Oh, Tyriq, is the one who got Camari but somehow his bitch ass managed to join forces with Jazmine and she is the one who shot me and Gambino. She had another nigga with her and his voice sounded familiar but he never took his mask off so I have no clue who the fuck he was. The bullet only grazed me so I been in this room making phone calls. Don’t worry, Tee. We will get Camari back soon. Now where is Gambino?” Zywon asked. He had succeeded in pulling all the IVs out his arm and was now looking for his clothes.

“We are waiting on his doctor to let us know when he is out of surgery. You might as well sit down and get comfortable. I’m going see if I can get Tyriq to answer the phone and speak to me,” I said.

“When you call him, if he acts like shit is all good, then just tell him that Camari wants to see him and let’s see how he acts. If the police come don’t tell them shit. We don’t know who would want to take him or shoot us.”

I dialed Tyriq’s number and after the third ring, he answered the phone.

“Teyana, I don’t know what the fuck you calling me for. My son is staying with me. You are not about to allow another nigga to raise my child.”

“Please don’t do this, Tyriq. I will do what you want. Please just give me back my son.”

“Tee, what you not about to do is beg this nigga. We gon’ get Camari back either voluntarily or involuntarily. Tyriq ass knows who the fuck I am but it sounds like he needs a reminder,” Zywon spoke up. I knew he meant every word. I also knew that this time when they went to kill his ass, I wasn’t going to protest.

Snatching my phone from me, Zywon hung up and went to my call log. He grabbed his phone and dialed a number. While waiting for them to answer, he copied Tyriq’s number out of my phone. When the caller answered, Zywon read of the number and told him to find him fast.

The doctor came in about an hour later and told Zywon that he wanted to keep him over night for observation since the bullet grazed his head, and to inform us that Gambino was out of surgery and in a recovery room.

“He’s asking to see a Ms. Teyana,” the doctor said as he flipped some papers around.

“That’s me. What room is he in?” I asked in a hushed tone. I was truly afraid to see him like this. When he left the house earlier this afternoon, I had no clue we would be ending the night in a hospital from him being shot.

  “Room 435A.”

As I made my way to his room, my knees grew weak. I wanted to see my son. I needed Gambino to be okay so that he could help me get through this. We had a baby on the way and life would not be complete without Gambino and my son.

When I finally made it to his room I was scared to go in. I didn’t know what I was going to be walking into. Was he gonna be in pain? Was he mad at me? It was my fault that Tyriq linked up with Jazz and shot him and kidnapped my son. I just didn’t know what
to think walking into his room.

“Tee, baby, I’m good. Come here, ma.” I heard Gambino speak out.

I peeked into the room and my heart fluttered. Even laid up in a hospital gown, he was the sexist man I’d ever met. He motioned for me to come to the bed where he was and I did.

  “Hi, baby. How you feeling?”

“I’m sorry, ma. When I find out where Camari is please believe I’m on a mission to get him back.” He sounded so sincere. He had a look of defeat in his eyes as he spoke.

“I know you would never put my son in harm’s way. Zywon has already put someone on the hunt for Tyriq and Camari.” I kissed him on the forehead and rubbed his back. He amazed me more and more every day. While he should’ve been worried about getting better, he was worried about the well-being of my son and for that I had to admit that I was in love with this man.

“How is my baby doing? You know I don’t need you stressing while you carrying my seed. It’s only been two weeks since you were the one in this position and I don’t want that again so please just help me heal and get Camari back. I don’t want you putting yourself in harm’s way. Zywon will take care of everything until I am released.”

“Terrean, I will take it easy, but it’s impossible for me not to stress when that asshole has my son. Camari is my world and I won’t sleep until he is back home with me.”

“I know, baby. Come here. Lay with me.” I climbed in the bed with Gambino and laid my head on his chest. He got shot on his left side, so I made sure not to lie any of my weight on that side. He played in my hair like he did every night and before I knew it, my eyes were getting heavy.

  Gambino

I couldn’t believe that Tyriq had pulled a bitch move and ran up in the shop while I had his son with me. All I remember seeing when that bullet hit me was Camari covering his ears and crying for me. I felt helpless and felt that I’d failed him and Teyana. Had I known that those stupid mothafuckas was gonna run up in the shop, best believe I would’ve had my tool on deck. I didn’t like having my gun on me while Camari was with me, but that was one time I wished I would have had it.

Being stuck in this damn hospital for a whole week wasn’t the business. It was finally my release day and a nigga was ready to put in work. I was not resting until I found out where Camari is. I got word from Zywon that that bitch Jazz was in on this shit too. I’d been trying to call her ass but hadn’t been having no luck. Either the bitch’s phone was off or she got her number changed. But that’s alright ‘cause she was gonna get hers sooner rather than later. Right now, my main priority was getting my little man back.

“Where Zy at? I thought his ass was picking me up!” I said when Teyana’s sexy ass walked into my room. I swear, her ass was like a breath of fresh fucking air. All the years I was with Jazz I’d never loved her the way I loved Teyana. She was just so sweet and innocent that you just couldn’t help but love her ass.

“Damn, good morning to you too. You would rather Zywon come than me?” she asked through a smile. I saw right past that. Behind her beautiful smile was so much hurt. She looked so defeated and it caused my heart to ache. That’s why I wanted Zywon to come scoop me up so we could put in this work.

“No, it’s nothing like that, ma. We just had something to handle, but we can do it later.” I pulled her body between my legs and kissed her stomach. She sighed.

“Yeah, he told me y’all have business to handle, but I just wanted to get out the house,” she stated sadly. Sitting her down on my lap, I turned her face so she was looking at me.

“We’re going to get him back. I can’t tell you not to let it stress you because I know it is, but it’s not good for the baby in there.” I pointed at her stomach. “Just trust me on this, Tee. Have I ever steered you wrong?”

  “No.”

“We’re getting little man back,” I assured her. “Have you talked to him today?” I then asked. Though Tyriq’s bitch ass kidnapped his own fucking son, he did let Camari call Teyana every day to let her talk to him, but he was just on the fuck shit when he called. Shit, that made me gun for his head and want his blood more than before. I wonder how he and Jazz knew one another.

“Yeah. He keeps asking when he can come home and of course Tyriq is on his bullshit.” I already knew what bullshit she was referring too, so there was no need for me to ask. “I’m really considering giving him what he wants,” she mumbled. I looked at her as is she had just lost her mind.

“You’re considering what?” I asked, harshly. I was pissed and wasn’t trying to hide it.

“I need to be with my son, Gambino. He keeps asking when am I coming to get him and I don’t have a fucking answer for him. If being with Tyriq is the only way I can see Camari then that’s what I have to do. I’m not trying to go another day without my son,” Teyana cried.

I wasn’t even gonna front and act as if I wasn’t hurt behind the shit she was spitting, because I was, but in a way I felt where she’s coming from. I just needed to get to Camari before she decided to go back with Tyriq.

“So, you really are thinking about going back to that nigga after all this shit? This nigga just kidnapped his own son, all so he could get you back.”

“Exactly, and if I want to see him again then I’m gonna have to go back to him.”

“Oh, so you just don’t have any faith in me, right?” Teyana was starting to piss me off. This nigga just beat her ass and put her in the fucking hospital not even a month ago, shot me and kidnapped Camari, but she was willing to go back with his ass. I tell you what; if she made that move then she wouldn’t have to worry about me.

“I’m not saying that, Terrean, and you know it. But at the same time I don’t want to go another day without Camari, and being without him is going to cause me to stress and I know you don’t want me to lose our baby. I know I don’t want that.”

When she said that, I really thought she had lost her fucking mind.

“My child ain’t about to be around that mothafucka’ and if I see any marks on you or find out he laid hands on you while you pregnant with my seed it’s gonna be hell to pay!” I stated seriously. I knew Teyana missed her son and if she felt that I was not capable of getting him home safely then I guess she had to do what she had to do. I don’t like it but I knew her mind was all made up and there was nothing I could do or say to stop her.

“What you mean, your child won’t be around him, Gambino?”

“When you have my child! You can stay with the mothafucka’ but my child will not be around him. Now you can take it how you wanna take it!” With that I laid back on the bed, leaving her standing there staring at me pissed off.

“I’ll holla at you later. Zy coming to pick me up,” I dismissed her ass. There was nothing else that needed to be said. Reaching over, I grabbed my cell phone and dialed Zywon’s number. I wanted Teyana’s ass to feel the pain she had just caused me when she announced she was considering going back to that fuck nigga.

  *******

I had been out the hospital for three days now and was still trying to get in contact with Jazz’s ass. Still no luck. I just wanted know how my baby was doing—if it was mines. Her being pregnant with that baby was the only thing stopping me from flying to New York on her trifling ass. I seriously hoped she was not underestimating me by thinking I couldn’t touch her. Jazz knew how I got down.

Picking up my phone, I shook my head as Teyana’s name displayed on the screen for the umpteenth time in the last two days. She made her decision to go back to that nigga, so what the fuck was she blowing up my shit for?!

“Yeah?” I finally answered with frustration all in my voice.

“Why won’t you answer any of my calls, Gambino? You can’t ignore me forever, you know,” she said, just above a whisper. I guess she was sneaking on the phone or something.

“Man, what’s up, Teyana? Shouldn’t you be catering to your fiancé or something?”

“I was calling to check up on you. I haven’t spoken to you since you got out t
he hospital. Terrean, you have to understand my reason for coming back here. I love you and you know that but my son needs me and you know as well as I do that Tyriq wasn’t going to let me see Camari unless we were together,” she said.

“Damn it, Teyana, you act like I wasn’t going to get little man back. I told you I had everything under control but you weren’t trying to hear that. I swear, I’m starting to think you like getting your ass beat by that nigga,” I said harshly, not giving a fuck about her feelings. I heard her gasped and knew her feelings were hurt. Shit, mine were too, so why should I have spared hers?

“How could you say something like that to me, Terrean?” She sounded as if she was on the verge of crying.

“I mean, look how quick you went back to him.”

“Terrean, I had been away from Camari for a whole fucking week. There’s no telling what Tyriq would’ve done to my baby. I’m sorry but I wasn’t taking any chances. As I said, I love you but I love my son also.”

The more I stayed on the phone with Teyana the more pissed I become.

“I’m not saying you had to pick between me and your son, Teyana. You knew Tyriq wasn’t going to hurt him. Zy and I had everything all planned out and we were going to get him that day I got out the hospital but you were so hell bent on going back to that nigga that you couldn’t wait. I tried—”

“How could you say that he wasn’t going to hurt Camari when he put him in harm’s way by having people shoot at y’all while he was there? What if one of those bullets would’ve hit my baby? Because of that, I don’t put shit past his ass.”

I understood where she was coming from—I really did. I just wished she would’ve let me handle it. What was done was done and she chose to go back to that nigga. But I knew one thing; she had better not lose my child in the process.

“I feel you, Tee. Let’s just hope nothing happens to my child while you’re there. Hit me on the doctor’s appointments.” With that I ended the call. I loved Teyana, but I wasn’t going to play seconds to that bitch ass nigga this time around. If she wanted be with him then that’s who she was going to be with.
